Ecuador and the Galapagos

We got back from Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands last week and saw some amazing stuff -- sharks, dolphins, giant turtles, tarantulas, alligators, monkeys, iguanas, tons of birds, and even one giant anaconda. Check out the photos.

Cheap computers

Apple has an "inexpensive" new desktop that everyone's talking about, but how about this deal from Dell: Inspiron 1000 Notebook with a Celeron 2.2GHz processor, 256 megs of ram, 30 gig hard drive, and a 24X CD-RW/DVD drive -- all for only $550 shipped. That's inexpensive. Offer expires 1/19/05.

Backpacking with Randall, part 3

Randall and I had a great wet time doing some backpacking along the Dickey Creek trail to Big Slide lake. Lots of salamanders, moss, and mushrooms which I wish I knew were edible; but most of all, lots of rain. We had one beautiful day, and from it many great pictures like the ones above.

The entertaining Oregon Voters Guide

The November 2nd 2004 Oregon Voters Guide is now available, and is full of tongue in cheek arguments.

From the Arguments in Favor of Measure 36 (a state constitutional ban on homosexual marriage) section:

In the Holy Bible, Saint Paul says that Christians should remain single and abstain from sex. The New Testament says that people should get married only if they are too weak-willed to abstain from sex:

"It is well for a man not to touch a woman…. It is well … to remain single as I do. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion." (I Corinthians 7:1, 8-9)

Marriage is not sacred. Marriage is for wimps and sissies!

Be sure to check out the next two arguments on that page if you want more of the same.

Cheney drops a dot com bomb in debate

Cheney uses a .com address rather than a .org address, directing users to an anti-bush site. [Washington Post Story]

If you want to separate fact from fiction on the issues in the debate, you should check out the site that Cheney was trying to point people to: FactCheck.org.
(If their site seems slow, you might want to try the google cache of the page.)

Handy diff tool

I just ran across a handy command line diff tool called scdiff. It performs a visual diff of your current directory against CVS or Subversion by copying files to a temp directory and then running a visual diff program like windiff on the two directories.

I just submitted a patch to a small bug I found. Thanks for a nice, simple tool, Krzysztof.

Great Flash site by my roommate

My roommate just finished his latest creation -- WornoutWashburn.com. The site is really fun to look around, and features a lot of media that Brad's created over the years. Be sure to check out the music and animation sections.
